DIR. David Thian - Malaysia - 2017 - Horror / Genre / Based on a true story - 110'
Based on a true story, 9.13 THE RETURNING tells the dramatized tale of a local drowning in Parit Buntar, a sleepy village along the Malacca Straits. On 13 September, 1972, a commuter ferry carrying 40 people sank, claiming 27 casualties, 17 of whom were schoolchildren. Since then, local lore centred around the event has built a rich and frightening tapestry of guilt, redemption, and unfinished business.
May's parents moved her away from her ancestral home as a young girl. After her father's death, she is determined to go back and see what she has missed, defying her father's last words. Upon returning to her old home, her father's old co-working, Lan, tells her that she is not welcome. A terrible secret is revealed and May becomes caught as the schoolchildren call to her from beyond the grave.
